GoFundMe: 10-year-old hit by a car has brain damage, two broken legs

A GoFundMe created several days after the accident said the 10-year-old was biking to the pool with friends when she was struck by a vehicle.

COON RAPIDS, Minn. — Friends and family members of a 10-year-old girl severely injured after she was hit by a car are asking for support as she continues her recovery.

On Saturday, June 4, the Anoka County Sheriff's Office said a 10-year-old was riding a bike near Foley Boulevard and East River Road in Coon Rapids when she collided with a sedan. Police initially asked the public for help identifying the young girl, who was hospitalized in serious condition, but were able to find her family several hours after the crash.

A GoFundMe created several days after the accident identified the child as Keira Rose, and said she was biking to the pool with friends when she was hit.

"Unfortunately being kids, her friends left scared, and it took almost 7 hours to find Keira's family and update them on her condition," the GoFundMe page said.

According to the post, Keira "sustained 2 broken legs, broken femur, a broken pelvis that is shifted, brain damage/injury, and is currently on a ventilator."

The fundraiser, which has collected nearly $4,000 as of Tuesday afternoon, will support the Keira and her family on her road to recovery, according to organizer Michelle Salter-Carter.

Keira, who is reportedly one of four siblings, is described as "a bright ten year old with boundless energy" who is"always up dancing, doing cartwheels, playing games, and just a happy kid."
