Twin Cities organizers and activists are inviting the public to take part in a "healing space" and rally in remembrance of Ricky Cobb II.
The event, A Celebration of Black Life Honoring Ricky Cobb II, will be held on Saturday, Aug. 5 at the intersection of 38th Street and Chicago Avenue in Minneapolis, also known as George Floyd Square.
The pre-event healing space will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and will offer free food, mutual aid and a place for protest sign-making.
A rally is scheduled to take place from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m., according to Marcia Howard, a community activist who is helping organize the event.
"We are now practiced in holding grief," said Howard. "From the Say Their Names Cemetary to the names (of people who have been killed by police) down the street, in the imagination of the world, this is a place that can handle it."
Howard said Black Lives Matter Twin Cities is the primary organizer of the events.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal is currently investigating the fatal shooting of Cobb by State Patrol Trooper Ryan Londregann.
