MINNEAPOLIS — Metro Transit has suspended bus and light rail service through the end of Monday, June 1 as unrest continues in the Twin Cities following the death of George Floyd in police custody.

According to a release on Metro Transit's website, this suspension includes all Metro Transit bus, light rail, and Northstar service with exception of the METRO Blue Line airport shuttle, which will continue to operate between Terminals 1 and 2 and Fort Snelling. This service is for essential trips only with face covering and social distancing protocol still in effect.

In a prior tweet, Metro Transit cited "riotous behavior" for the discontinuation of service, saying it is being done as a precaution for riders and employees.

Metro Mobility will also continue to operate "where it is safe to do so," according to the release. Anyone with questions regarding Metro Mobility's service is asked to call 651-602-1111 or email.

The Blue Line runs along stations between Minneapolis and the Mall of America. In Minneapolis, looting and fires have been reported since Wednesday night following demonstrations over the police-involved death of George Floyd.

A follow-up tweet said that the airport shuttle between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 will continue to operate.
