ST PAUL, Minn. — A search is underway for a St. Paul kayaker last seen on Jackson Lake at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming.

Grand Teton National Park posted on social media that 43-year-old Wesley Dopkins was last spotted Saturday afternoon paddling from Elk Island towards Waterfalls Canyon. He was wearing a red ball cap with the NASA Kennedy Space Center logo, a blue t-shirt and black shorts.

Officials said Dopkins was not wearing a life jacket.

Rangers from Grand Teton said two people left Colter Bay around midday, planning to head to Waterfalls Canyon on the west shore of Jackson Lake. After losing sight of Dopkins around 2 p.m., the friend with him on the trip tried to return to Colter Bay but was stopped by the strong winds and instead landed at Leeks Marina where he reported his companion missing.

Around 8 p.m. Saturday, rangers found Dopkins' Oru folding kayak, paddle and dry bag floating near Moose Island. Crews continue to search on land and water.

Anyone with information or who may have seen his possible belongings is asked to call the Teton Interagency Dispatch Center at (307) 739-3301.
