HENNEPIN COUNTY, Minn. — Homeowners in Hennepin County are being asked to report any damage experienced during storms and flooding earlier this summer.

The federal disaster declaration resulting from the storms between June 16 and July 4 did not include Hennepin County. However, the city of Brooklyn Park said in an email that because some Hennepin County households have applied for individual assistance, the state is considering adding the county to its eligibility list.

Individual assistance from FEMA means people can be reimbursed for debris removal, emergency protective measures, and repair and replacement of damaged infrastructure.

Between June 16 and July 4, damaging storms caused widespread flooding across the state, but especially in southern counties. There was national attention near Mankato when the Rapidan Dam partially failed, and the Hruska Family's home fell into the Blue Earth River. Valleyfair was closed as the Minnesota River crested to 719.4 feet, higher than the 1993 flood.

Now, Hennepin County homeowners who experienced damage are asked to report it at bit.ly/HennFloodReport. The city of Brooklyn Park said in an email that the state wants to reach impacted households as FEMA is going to start individual assessments soon.
