WINONA, Minn. — A hiker is being treated for injuries suffered during a fall at a southeastern Minnesota landmark Sunday.
The Winona Fire Department said just before 2:45 p.m. Sunday, rescue units were dispatched to Sugar Loaf Park on reports of a hiker who had fallen from the rock.
First responders scaled the bluff, located the victim and transported that person down to a waiting ambulance.
A post on the department's Facebook page says the hiker was taken to a hospital in Winona to receive treatment for serious injuries.
Sugar Loaf Bluff was created by miners during the rock quarrying process in the 1800s. It towers approximately 500 feet above Lake Winona, an offshoot of the Mississippi River, with a pinnacle referred to as Sugar Loaf Rock rising another 85 feet in the air. It's not known exactly where the hiker was when they fell or how far.
