BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. — Local community members have teamed up with Moments Hospice to donate winter coats to a Brooklyn Park Salvation Army Service Center that was set on fire and vandalized earlier this month.

"We are so honored to be able to provide and donate over 100 coats to the Salvation Army," said Miriam Campbell, regional director of business development at Moments Hospice.

Campbell said when the Golden Valley-based hospice care center heard the news about the fire, the company's owners knew they had to do something.

"We had a warehouse full of coats that were designated to our Moments Hospice store but we decided to donate them instead," Campbell said.

Campbell also praised the community for their support. Along with the Moments Hospice donation, she said more than 1,300 coats have also been donated from individuals since the fire.

"Thank you to the community for bringing [these coats]," Campbell said. "This is the time of year that we all have to wrap up and bundle up and make sure we are safe from the environment."

Campbell added that the donated coats with be shipped to other Salvation Army Corps locations within the Twin Cities area to help direct communities as a part of their "Coats For Kids" campaign.

The campaign has donated roughly 334,000 coats and accessories to local families in need for more than 30 years, according to the Salvation Army's website.
