BCA investigating after gunfire exchanged between Richfield police and man in crisis

Police said that Richfield officers exchanged gunfire with a man near the 8700 block of 12th Ave. S. No injuries have been reported.

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is investigating Friday morning after a crisis call turned into an exchange of gunfire in Bloomington. 

According to Bloomington Police on X, Richfield police officers responded to a suicide threat after midnight near the 8700 block of 12th Ave. S. After arriving on scene, Richfield officers and the man in crisis exchanged gunfire. 

Bloomington crisis negotiators arrived afterward and spoke with the 36-year-old man, according to a police press release Friday. He exited the house and was taken into custody around 4 a.m. with no further gunfire.

The Bloomington Police Department is now holding the man and have yet to announce charges. There were no injuries. 

KARE 11 Sunrise reporter CeCe Gaines was nearby the scene and saw a bomb squad, an ambulance and multiple squad cars. Multiple streets were blocked off nearby early Friday morning. 

The Minnesota BCA posted on X around 5:45 a.m. that they are responding to a use-of-force incident in Bloomington. More details have yet to be released.
