COLUMBIA HEIGHTS, Minn. — First responders in Columbia Heights found one dead after responding to a "second-alarm" house fire early Thursday morning.
Crews were dispatched to the fire at the 4600 block of 7th St. at around 1 a.m. Thursday. Fire Chief Charlie Thompson said it appeared like only one person was in the house at the time of the fire, and that man is dead, along with a dog and a pet pig.
The man was still alive at the time officials arrived, but later died at the hospital. The house sustained significant damage, and firefighters from five departments assisted at the scene.
An investigation is underway by the State Fire Marshall and Anoka County fire investigation team and criminal investigation division. However, officials said Thursday morning that this procedure is standard and the fire does not seem suspicious.
