MINNEAPOLIS — On Sunday, three people — two police officers and a paramedic/firefighter — were killed in the line of duty in Burnsville.
That night, hundreds of community members gathered at a vigil to honor these first responders.
The City of Burnsville announced it plans to post official links to fundraisers on the city's website, along with a warning to be cautious of scams. On Monday, the Front Line Foundation announced that each family will receive $20,000 in death benefits.
GoFundMe accounts have also been started to support the families in their time of loss.
Firefighter and paramedic Adam Finseth joined the City of Burnsville as a firefighter/paramedic in February 2019. The 40-year-old served the fire department as a SWAT paramedic. Before joining the City of Burnsville, Finseth served as a firefighter in Hastings and Savage.
On the GoFundMe page started in his honor, it reads that "not only was Adam a devoted first responder, but he was also a cherished veteran who continued his commitment to service long after his military service had ended. He bravely faced danger to ensure the safety and well-being of those around him, and his impact on countless lives will never be forgotten."
The page also notes that Finseth was a "beloved father and loving husband."
Paul Elmstrand joined the Burnsville Police Department as a community services officer in 2017 and was promoted to officer in 2019. The 27-year-old officer worked in the department's mobile command staff, peer team, Honor Guard and field training unit.
A GoFundMe started for Elmstrand notes that he had a wife and two children, and graduated in 2015 as the class president of Cambridge-Isanti High School . "Rest in peace, Paul. You will be missed," reads the page.
