ISANTI COUNTY, Minn. — An Isanti County home was heavily damaged after a reported tornado came through the area Thursday.
Pete Brescancini had to run an errand Thursday afternoon. When he came back, he discovered trees has fallen through the home in his bathroom, laundry room, and kitchen, with the garage seeing damage too.
Pete and his daughter Aquisha live just a few miles east of the city of Isanti. He counts his blessings, saying his dog is okay, and so is his Harley motorcycle. His wooded yard on the other hand lost many of its trees.
"You can't be mad, it's just gonna have to get cleaned up and repaired," Pete said.
"Thank God my dad was not home, otherwise he would have been right there," Aquisha said, showing KARE 11 how the damage is apparent in every corner of their home, including right above the chair Pete usually sits in as he works.
The National Weather Service has preliminarily reported a tornado in the Isanti County area Thursday afternoon. Powerful storms moved across the North Star State, bringing with it heavy rain, wind and severe thunderstorms.
Isanti Township Commissioner Todd Christensen told KARE 11 he believes he heard the tornado coming.
"The sound came up and it literally sounded like a freight train," he said.
Pete said his house can be fixed, but he doesn't believe he will see the fully grown trees in the yard again.
The National Weather Service will likely be in Isanti County soon, surveying storm damage to confirm if there was a tornado and what rating to give it. The NWS has also preliminary reported three other tornados in Wisconsin from the same storm.
