GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn — You've had your fill of leftover turkey and football. How about taking in a blockbuster on the big screen?
Tomatometer-approved film critic Brian Eggert from Deep Focus Review stopped by KARE 11 Saturday to share his thoughts on three big films now playing in theatres.
Gladiator II
Good, but not great, Eggert says, which to him, is a disappointment.
"Everything moviegoers might want from a sword and sandals epic has been superbly directed by Scott. But, as is usually the case with these things, the sequel’s problems lie in the writing," Eggert writes in his review on the Deep Focus Review website.
Wicked
Eggert says the film version of the popular musical show a "visually dazzling" adaptation that fans will love.
It's also topical for today's times, Eggert writes in his review: "Watching Wicked, its uncanny parallels with today’s book bannings, xenophobic fearmongering, and authoritarianism felt urgent and vital."
Moana 2
Eggert calls the Disney sequel "visually engaging" but "less memorable" than the 2015 original.
"The songs ... don’t have the same resonant harmonies that stick in your head long afterward," Eggert writes in his review. "The visual luster feels somehow less vibrant and awe-inducing. And the story of a heroic Polynesian wavefinder, once again saving her people on another ocean adventure involving sea monsters and angry gods, doesn’t snap with the same vitality."
