8th annual Running HOME for Jacob kicks off Saturday morning

The Phalen Park Pavilion will host the 8th Annual Running HOME for Jacob on Saturday.

ST PAUL, Minn — The family of Jacob Wetterling is inviting everyone to join their fight for all children by simply running or walking in their own neighborhoods.

The Phalen Park Pavilion will host the 8th Annual Running HOME for Jacob on Saturday, Oct. 14. The race is virtual as well as in-person.

Registration starts at 7 a.m. at Phalen Park Pavilion, 1600 Phalen Drive in St. Paul.

The event is a day for community, hope, and prevention as we strive to end child maltreatment in all forms.

In addition to the 11K, 5K, and children's races, there are many activities for families.

HOME stands for Hope for Our Missing and Exploited and extends to all those missing and exploited. Their goal is to raise awareness of the issues of safety, and prevention and a unified goal to create a world where kids can grow up safe.

The virtual race will run from Oct. 11-22. It was Oct. 22, 1989, when Jacob was abducted near his home in Saint Joseph, Minnesota.

The race raises money for the Jacob Wetterling Resource Center – a program of Zero Abuse Project – while also celebrating Jacob's 11 positive traits that remain part of his legacy.

Also this year, Patty Wetterling and co-author Joy Baker will be at this year's race and will sign copies of Patty's new memoir, Dear Jacob: A Mother's Journey of Hope."
