MAPLE GROVE, Minn. — We all know that adding herbs, spices and other ingredients can amp up the flavor of dishes. But the reality is, if you're like most of us, a lot of those ingredients quickly end up in your compost pile or trash before you have a chance to use them up – especially if you're only cooking for one or two people.
Terri Chaffer, experienced home cook and owner of Love That Olive in Maple Grove has the solution. She's discovered a clever line of "Food Crayons" that add flavor to all sorts of dishes. Chaffer joined KARE Saturday to share what they are and show us how to use these all-natural, gluten-free crayons to add flavor to all sorts of dishes.
The salt and cider apple vinegar used in preparing the food crayons is a natural preservative helping them last up to 12 months in the refrigerator.
Flavors currently include Basil, Balsamic & Fig, Black Garlic, Chipotle, Curry & Turmeric, Ginger, Lemon, Lime, Raspberry Balsamic, Shallot, Spicy Mango and Tomato Thyme.
