Get the most out of your Minnesota State Fair experience

"Professional fairgoer" Nikki Klemen stopped by the KARE 11 Barn with suggestions for a fun and memorable day at the fair.

The Great Minnesota Get-Together is an annual tradition for many families, and for good reason with all of the food and fun packed into the 12-day event.

If you're new to the fair experience, or just looking to ensure a fun and memorable time, "professional fairgoer" Nikki Klemen stopped by the KARE 11 Barn to offer these pro tips for making the most out of your visit:

  • Get the official Minnesota State Fair app! Favorite the foods you want to try. The map will guide you where to find them.

  • Pack a cinch bag with different size ziplocks, a double-walled cup for the slushies/beer to stay cold and any plastic Tupperware you can fit. Eat half and bring the rest home. Then you can eat ALL the things twice!

  • Tip: If you're buying Sweet Martha's cookies, do not put them in a ziplock. Get a round container in your bag so they don't all melt together. Dump the top mound into the container right away. Mini donuts should be fine in ziplock as well as Pronto pups. Throw them sumbitches in the air fryer and they are like new.

  • Buy the refillable cup. You can use it year after year and get the refill cost.

  • Additional items to pack: wet wipes, hand sanitizer, floss (for post-corn teeth), portable phone charger, travel first aid kit and Kleenex. Grab extra napkins at the first stand and put them in the bag.

  • Lastly, disposable ponchos for those random storms, if you want.
