'The Great Dreams Campaign' raises money for Tubman Center

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and these models are donning purple to raise money for a local nonprofit.

MINNEAPOLIS — During October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a local nonprofit is kicking off a new campaign to improve its facilities.

"The Great Dreams Campaign" is an effort from the Tubman Center. Once the fundraising goals are met, the nonprofit hopes to build a pet sanctuary. When people escape domestic violence, they are often forced to choose between finding a safe place to stay and being able to keep their animal companions with them.

The campaign would also fund a community kitchen and enhanced security for their facilities.

On Saturday morning, organizers and some furry friends were in the KARE 11 Studios, showing off their bold purple looks.

Their clothes were all from 50th and France in Edina.
