Help out an animal rescue organization on Give to the Max Day

Ruff Start Rescue visited KARE 11 Saturday to discuss growing demand on organizations like theirs, and how people who love animals can help.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — Give to the Max Day offers a chance to help organizations dedicated to helping make the community a better place.

The big-hearted folks at Ruff Start Rescue like to think they're one of those worthy causes, dealing with overwhelming demand to save and place pets in the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota.

Ruff Start says In September of 2023 they had 251 owner applications to surrender a pet. This September, the rescue processed 361 and took in 70 more dogs and cats than last year. Rescue organizers say in 2024 they project Ruff Start will save more than 3,400 companion animals, perform 1,750 surgeries and reach over 1,000 people with educational programs.

In order to do all that, Ruff Start Rescue is expanding its 5,400-square-foot facility in Princeton but will need financial help. Executive Director and Ruff Start Founder Azure Davis visited KARE 11 Saturday to discuss the growing pressure on animal rescue organizations like hers, and to encourage viewers to donate on Give to the Max Day.
