EXCELSIOR, Minn. — The popular winter experience that has become a Minnesota tradition for many families is ready for guests.

Ice Castles in Excelsior opens Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019. Tickets are now available online. This is the first year Ice Castles has built in Excelsior. Previous locations in Minnesota include Stillwater, Eden Prairie, and Mall of America.

The attraction features ice-carved tunnels, fountains, slides, frozen thrones, and cascading towers of ice embedded with color-changing LED lights that twinkle to music at night. Artisans have spent the last five weeks growing, harvesting, and hand-placing icicles to create the life-size winter playground that draws tens of thousands of people each season.

Warm temperatures in December and early January created challenges for the weather-dependent attraction built entirely from ice. The frozen creation in Excelsior is made up of 25 million pounds of ice and is roughly an acre in size.
