Miss Minnesota 2023 heads to Miss America

Amérigo's community service initiative is "One Bottle, One Straw, One Bag at a Time."

MINNEAPOLIS — Our very own Miss Minnesota 2023, Angelina Amérigo, is headed to the big stage! KARE 11 Saturday got a chance to catch up with her before she competes in the Miss America competition on Jan. 6-14 in Orlando, Fla.

Amérigo, a 22-year-old student at Minnesota State University Moorhead, represents Morris, Minnesota.

Her community service initiative is "One Bottle, One Straw, One Bag at a Time." She is focused on reducing the use of one-time-use plastics, protecting our bodies of water, creating a more sustainable world and working toward a circular economy.

"Protecting our oceans, lakes and rivers while living in Minnesota is possible. Each of us can collectively change the ways we use day-to-day items," said Amérigo in a press release. "It all starts with three simple steps. We can form new habits, share information and encourage others to join us."

You can follow Amérigo's progress on Facebook and Instagram by clicking on the links.
