No snow, no problem: Ski season gets underway with Minnesota Nordic Ski Opener

Enjoy this winter to the max by learning cross-country skiing and exploring parts of Minnesota you have never seen.

MAPLE GROVE, Minn. — Despite the lack of natural snow, the cross-country skiing season is officially underway and families can get started with the sport for free this Saturday in Maple Grove.

Three Rivers Park District is holding its annual Minnesota Nordic Ski Opener on Saturday, Dec. 9 at Elm Creek Park Reserve.

The park has created a manufactured snow loop for skiers in these recent above-average temperatures.

Skiers of all abilities and ages are invited to kick off their winter with free skiing, free ski rental equipment and free mini-lessons.

Participate in the Ski Tour at the park with routes for the whole family and check out the Nordic Market with representatives from 50 Nordic ski suppliers, resorts, retailers and clubs.
