Advances in spinal cord injury treatment

Jen Kelly joined KARE 11 Saturday to talk about her recovery journey as we mark Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — A local woman unexpectedly found herself with a spinal cord injury after she was hurt when her horse got spooked during a ride.

Jen Kelly has always loved horses and has been riding since she was 8. But her life suddenly changed when she suffered a spinal cord injury after being thrown from her horse in September 2020. She was paralyzed from the neck down and faced the fear of never walking again.

Jen was transferred to Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute where she received care from top neurosurgeons and had access to the latest technology to help her with her healing journey. Now, after a lot of hard work, she is walking again.

Kelly joined KARE 11 Saturday to talk about her recovery journey as we mark Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month.
