ST PAUL, Minn. — "Unholy Communion" is the latest film from St. Paul resident writer/director Patrick Coyle, an adaptation of Scandia, Minnesota native Thomas Rumreich's award-winning novel of the same name. The production is filming in St. Paul and stars Adam Bartley (Longmire, Night Sky) and Vincent Kartheiser (Mad Men).
The film, a noir murder thriller, follows a small-town Minnesota cop on a compelling and unorthodox journey for answers regarding clergy abuse, revenge, and redemption. He is tracking a serial killer preying on priests.
"When Washington County investigator Chris Majek is called to the scene of a retired priest's horrific murder, little does he know the emotional chasm it will open. And little does he know that this murder is a portend of more to come," said Patrick Coyle, an award-winning playwright, screenwriter and director, in a press release.
Coyle's past feature films include internationally distributed "Into Temptation" starring Jeremy Sisto and Kristin Chenoweth, and "Detective Fiction" which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
"I was absolutely thrilled to get my two first choices to play the leads," said Coyle. Adam Bartley has starred in the popular series Longmire for six years. Vincent Kartheiser starred in every episode of the wildly popular Mad Men series. "We went to work with their agents and we got them here."
Six Minnesotans are engaged with the film in various capacities, from writer/director to novelist to producer.
