ARDEN HILLS, Minn — A black bear sighting was reported in Arden Hills on Tuesday, prompting an alert from the city.

The City of Arden Hills posted on Facebook that they received reports of a black bear near North Heights Lutheran Church.

We have had reports of a black bear sighting in Arden Hills near North Heights Lutheran Church. The Sheriff's Office is aware and has talked with the DNR. The best policy is to leave the bear alone...

According to the city, the Sheriff's Office and DNR determined the best thing to do was leave the bear alone and let it pass through.

It sounds obvious, but the DNR says the most important thing to to do is to leave it alone and not approach the bear. To avoid attracting bears to your property in the first place, remove food sources from your yard. That includes:

  • Bird feeders
  • Pet food/bowls
  • Unsecured garbage

It is common for animals to return to a place where they have found food in the past, and if it's your yard... that could be a problem.

KARE Twitter follower Val Harrington sent Alicia Lewis a video shot at her cabin that shows a bear wandering around on her porch, drawn by her bird feeder. "The bird feeder is no longer up!" Val reports.
