How to digitally declutter your phone

Spring cleaning doesn't always require a mop and broom.

Is your phone running a little slower than usual?

Are you getting overwhelmed with just how much you have stored on your phone?

When you look at your home screen, do you see apps there that you haven't touched in months?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may need to spend some time digitally decluttering your phone.

We spoke to a Geek Squad agent named Cameron Kashef and asked him for the best ways to declutter a phone.

According to Kashef, a lot of people bring in their slowed-down phones to the Geek Squad at Best Buy. Usually, they're thinking that they need an upgrade.

But Kashef says that they really just need to do a few simple things and their phones would run just fine.

The first thing Kashef recommends is cleaning out the storage on your phone. This should be done once every couple of months. Kashef says that the background apps running on your phone decrease the life span of your phone.

The second thing he says to do is to look at the apps on your phone. There might be some apps that you don't use any more. Kashef says its a good practice to get rid of any apps that you don't remember using in a while.

The third tip from Kashef is to check and see how much of your phone storage is being taken up by photos. He says you can upload the photos on your phone to a computer instead. You won't have them right at your fingertips, but you'll be able to call them up whenever you need them.

The last thing that Kashef recommends is to set up an automatic deletion of your text messages. After a certain amount of time, your phone will delete old texts without you having to think about it. Kashef says that deleting texts from your phone would save storage space.

Decluttering your phone can be an easy thing to overlook when spring cleaning. But remember - tidying up doesn't always require a mop and a broom.
