Kasson woman goes viral for her story of removing her foot and becoming an amputee

"I woke up and I was like, 'Oh my god, my foot is gone,'" said Sierra Diller. "People don’t want to talk about it openly but I'm willing to."

KASSON, Minn. — A Minnesota woman decided to take matters into her own hands after suffering from lifelong chronic foot pain.

With the help of doctors, she decided to amputate her foot and document her journey on TikTok. Her account has garnered more than 5 million views.

"T-minus 12 hours until surgery," said Sierra Diller, a Kasson, Minn. native now living in Indianapolis. "It's really happening, we're finally here. I'm nervous for obviously the unknown, scared because I'm cutting my foot off and that seems crazy even though I'm ready and I know this is happening."

When Sierra was in the fourth grade, doctors discovered a non-cancerous tumor in her foot that caused her to limp.

After multiple failed surgeries and treatments, Sierra thought she was out of options... until she met the right doctor.

"I kind of joked with him that I was open to getting my foot amputated and he was like okay," Sierra said.

After 15 years of chronic foot pain, she finally got what she needed.

"He was like, 'I don't have any other answers for you, I don't know how you're going to get your life back without taking some drastic measures,'" Sierra said.

So Sierra decided to eliminate the pain by getting rid of her foot. She documented her amputee journey using humor along the way.

"It was such a good feeling and a lot of people feed off that energy. And since then I have gotten so many people reaching out and thanking me for sharing my story because it makes them feel better in whatever situation they may be going through," Sierra said. "To some degree, I may have helped them and that is exactly why I shared my story to begin with."

Sierra is now three months post-operation and she is getting accustomed to her new prosthetic!
