Fireworks are a staple of the Fourth of July, but not everyone is comfortable hearing the loud, booming explosions.
In particular, fireworks might upset veterans and active military members. The Department of Natural Resources is reminding military service members and their families that state parks are a great place to go to avoid the noise.
All 75 Minnesota state parks ban fireworks year round.
From Minneopa State Park just south of the Twin Cities to Grand Portage State Park way up north, there are plenty of options for people looking for a quieter holiday.
The DNR says they still have about 200 campsites available for overnight stays.
And if you bring your military ID, they'll waive the entrance fee. Active military and veterans with service-related disabilities are also eligible for a free annual permit.
The parks are open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. everyday. Office hours at each park vary.
