BROOKLYN PARK, Minn — Classes are underway at the newest school in Brooklyn Park. Zanewood Community School opened its doors for the first time Tuesday, and there's a good chance it doesn't look like the classroom you grew up in.
Zanewood is a 'STEAM' school in the Osseo Area School District. That means the curriculum specializes in science, technology, engineering, arts and math.
"We have some identified spaces, so that this beautiful work will happen," said Adrain Pendelton, Principal with Zanewood Community School. "We have a maker space, an art studio. We have an outside classroom. We're going to have a Lego room."
"The world is changing, so education has to change along with it," said Ann Petersen, Kindergarten teacher at Zanewood Community School. "The way we teach is changing too."
Kids will also notice a new face in the halls. Cory McIntyre has begun his first year as Superintendent of Osseo Area School District 279. McIntyre previously worked for Anoka-Hennepin School District 11 and North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale SD 622.
