MINNEAPOLIS — Construction crews will kick off repairs starting Monday at the iconic Stone Arch Bridge.
Walkers and bikers will soon have to find a new path, as state officials say to expect commuter disruptions through fall 2025.
Monday marks the start of pre-construction, as crews start measuring stones under the bridge before replacing them.
Stone Arch Bridge was built in the 1880s, and the state is taking on the repairs to keep it from deteriorating further. The project will cost about $26.2 million.
Crews will replace mortar, repair stones and fix additional things as needed. State officials said they will close half of the bridge at a time.
The good news is that folks can still get icon pictures taken on the bridge - think wedding, prom, etc. - but you won't be able to cross past the halfway point.
While pedestrian and bike traffic is expected to resume in the fall of 2025, construction is expected to end in spring 2026.
