GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — The signs of impending Autumn are all around us: school starting soon again, and BIRDS are on the move again. Fall migration for birds starts as early as now and goes all fall long. The peak in the Twin Cities is normally in the second half of September but some song birds are already moving through from Alaska, Canada, the arctic.
The birds migrating now are mostly warblers, orioles, flycatchers, and nighthawks. Our weather radars can pick up birds, and scientists use that information and our knowledge of their patterns to put together LIVE bird migration maps, and even forecast bird migration conditions. It's pretty cool, check it out!
