NORILSK, Russia — You may recall over the winter seeing a story about a starving polar bear lost after experiencing depleted sea ice, wandering into a Russian town.
Well, it's happened again. Authorities in Norilsk, Siberia alerted residents of a wandering polar bear. This year has seen extremely low sea ice in that part of the Arctic, as well as the water north of Alaska pushing bears into desperate situations.
In this case, the bear has been transported to a Siberian zoo for treatment.
Hopefully it's a good outcome, but these incidents of polar bears desperately wandering into towns where they smell food is only going to happen more and more, and the behavior is already being observed in Russian and Canadian polar bear habitats.
