Kim's to close in Minneapolis 2 months after workers unionize

The restaurant stated the closure was due to "ongoing financial losses."

MINNEAPOLIS — Editor's note: This video originally aired June 19, 2024.

A popular Uptown restaurant is closing just two months after workers voted to unionize, according to a social media post on Thursday.

Kim's posted on Instagram that the restaurant is closing on Aug. 30 "due to ongoing financial losses." The owner, Ann Kim, owns several award-winning restaurants, including Young Joni, Pizzeria Lola, Hello Pizza and Kyndred Hearth.

The closure comes just two months after Kim's employees voted to unionize on June 28. About 65% of cooks, dishwashers, servers, bartenders and support staff voted for a union. Organizers said they wanted better pay and benefits, and more respectful treatment and stability.

Kim's opened in Uptown in November 2023.

The post listed that reservations will be honored through Aug. 30. Gift cards can be used before that date, or after at Young Joni, Pizzeria Lola and Hello Pizza.
