BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - A hotel company is now confirming reports that they knew of structural issues at their Bloomington location, days before a wall collapse lead to a major evacuation.
KARE 11 obtained photos and documents from an inspection of the La Quinta Inn and Suites on Friday that warned, the wall -- 14 stories up -- was "hanging by a thread" and needed immediate action.
The hotel remained open and the wall fell several days later during the earlier morning hours on Monday, crashing onto the lobby below with hotel guests inside.
Now, after several days of refusing comment, an attorney for La Quinta is confirming the hotel chain called for a private inspection and had authorized work to proceed.
The attorney said the wall fell before a follow-up meeting was supposed to take place on that same Monday.
La Quinta says they are happy no one was injured and are making necessary repairs to the building.
