MINNEAPOLIS — As winter in Minnesota finally turns the corner into deep-freeze territory, the city of Minneapolis is celebrating by rolling out openings for each of its parks' outdoor ice rinks.
Officials with the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) said every city rink will open by Saturday, Jan. 20, with the first rink — at Lyndale Farmstead Park — opening Wednesday. Five more parks will open their rinks Thursday, while the remaining 16 parks will welcome skaters either Friday or Saturday.
MPRB said when all is said and done, a total of 45 outdoor rinks will be available to the public for activities like skating, hockey and broomball. Each site is free, offers a warming room and stays lit until at least 9 p.m. Those with broomball, the city said, will stay lit until 10:15 p.m.
If you don't have your own skates for your next session, the city said most warming rooms also have free skates available to borrow.
For a list of parks and rinks, and their scheduled openings, closures and operating hours, visit the MPRB's website.
