GoFundMe set up for 4 year old pulled from Minneapolis pond

A GoFundMe set up by a family friend said the child, named Eli, fell through thin ice covering a "non-fenced drainage pond," and is now in a medically induced coma.

MINNEAPOLIS — The Hennepin County Sheriff's Water Patrol Unit is investigating after an unresponsive 4-year-old was recovered from a Minneapolis pond Sunday.

Deputies from the Water Patrol Unit and members from the Minneapolis Police Department initially responded to the 1800 block of Laurel Avenue West just before 3 p.m. on a report of the child being found unresponsive in a pond.

On Monday, the child was identified in a GoFundMe that was launched by a family friend. The fundraiser's author wrote the child, named Eli, fell through thin ice covering a "non-fenced drainage pond." The author said Eli did not have a pulse when he was found, but after many attempts to resuscitate him, he regained his heartbeat.

The GoFundMe post went on to say Eli remains on a ventilator in a medically induced coma at HCMC, as doctors try to determine the extent of his injuries.

As of Thursday evening, $2,968 had been raised toward the fund's $5,500 goal. The post said the money raised will help "lessen the burden" of the family's financial situation.
