Blaine Police investigating after shots fired at Northtown Mall

"There is no longer a threat to mall employees, guests or any residents in the area," said a statement from the Blaine Police Department on Facebook.

BLAINE, Minn. — The Blaine Police Department is investigating after shots were fired outside Northtown Mall on Sunday afternoon.

Blaine police officers responded to Northtown Mall after receiving multiple calls reporting shots fired, according to a release.

The mall was locked down and cleared.

Officers determined the shots were fired outside the mall and no injuries were reported, according to police.

KARE 11 crews arrived on the scene and noticed at Door 3 of the mall that one of the doors had the glass blown out on the bottom half. A bullet hole could also be seen on another part of the glass above the door. According to several witnesses, the shooting happened in the parking lot outside Door 3. Shell casings could also be seen in the parking lot that was taped off for a few hours.

"I just heard pop, pop, pop, pop... and then a lot of people running," said Jessica Lee, who was in her car near Sky Zone across the street from the shooting. Lee had her five-year-old and six-year-old in the backseat.

"One crowd was running and then there was another crowd running. But I was so busy making sure my children were okay in the backseat of the car," Lee said.

According to BPD, detectives reviewed video surveillance footage and initial evidence suggests an altercation between two groups led to the shooting.

"There is no longer a threat to mall employees, guests or any residents in the area," BPD posted on Facebook, about an hour after the shooting.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
