WYOMING, Minn — Linwood Covenant Church's Manna Market has become a beacon of hope, serving the Wyoming community precisely when needed and marking a transformative journey in community service.
The TEGNA Foundation extended a grant to bolster the commendable efforts of this impactful initiative.
Pastor Dave Ostercamp, reflecting on the Manna Market's genesis, emphasized, "We have a community that we want to serve and we want to love well." Ostercamp credited Judy Stevens and her team for spearheading the initiative approximately eight years ago.
He highlighted the significance of the Manna Market as a unifying force in a community often dispersed due to work, school, and shopping commitments, emphasizing the importance of fostering neighborly connections.
For years, the Manna Market has been a steadfast support system for numerous individuals and families.
Judy Stevens, the Manna Market Coordinator, shed light on their mission, "We give out around 80 pounds of food. They do have to be qualified. We are very lenient because as a church, we feel that everyone that comes here for food should get it."
Stevens stressed the non-judgmental approach adopted by the church, ensuring that essential aid reaches all those in need.
The heartfelt impact of the Manna Market is echoed through the experiences of individuals like Dawn, a participant who expressed deep gratitude for the support. "It has been great. It gives you extra food or whatever to make that you can't buy at the store because it is too expensive," shared Dawn emotionally. Reflecting on the care received, she emphasized the profound sense of community fostered by this initiative, providing solace and support beyond mere sustenance.
The comprehensive efforts of Linwood Covenant Church go beyond food provision, encompassing initiatives such as the Blessing Box, a 24/7 resource for families in need, a community garden, an orchard, and endeavors like gathering bikes for children. These efforts reflect a commitment to holistic support and community upliftment.
The Manna Market was granted $5,000 through the TEGNA Foundation. Stevens said the funds came will be helpful when sourcing essential items, especially meat, has been challenging.
Linwood Covenant Church's Manna Market continues to demonstrate the transformative power of community-driven support.
The Manna Market stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of compassion, resilience, and connectivity fostered through the sharing of basic necessities and care for one another.
