A national nonprofit has crossed the border and set up shop in Minnesota’s capital city.
Little Free Library, which was founded in Hudson, Wisc., announced on Thursday that it has relocated its headquarters to the Wycliff Building in St. Paul’s Midway neighborhood.
"We are excited to join the vibrant St. Paul community,” said LFL Executive Director Greig Metzger, in a release. “St. Paul is recognized as one of the more ‘literate’ cities in the U.S. so our presence is a natural fit. St. Paul also has a robust nonprofit sector, and we look forward to partnering with and learning from our new neighbors as we expand book access here in town and around the world."
LFL, which works with volunteers to register free book-sharing boxes, used Minneapolis as a testing ground for its concept back in 2010.
The organization has since grown to work in over 100 countries with over 150,000 book-sharing boxes.
Following the murder of George Floyd in 2020, LFL developed its Read in Color initiative, which works to amplify diverse voices through books. The organization has since distributed over 8,000 diverse books in the Twin Cities.
