Man dies after possible car crash, shooting in St. Paul

Investigators are piecing together what happened after two cars were found a mile apart following a shooting and possible crash.

ST PAUL, Minn. — A man died overnight Thursday after a possible car crash and shooting in St. Paul, officials said.

St. Paul Police Sergeant Mike Ernster said they are investigating two crime scenes about a mile apart to piece together what happened.

Around 11 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to the 1300 block of Wilson Ave. on reports of shots fired and sounds of cars leaving the neighborhood. Ernster said they found an unoccupied damaged vehicle that appeared to have been in a crash.

Shortly after, officers stopped a different vehicle driving erratically on Minnehaha Ave East and Frank Street North. Ernster said a man in the car was suffering gunshot injuries as well as injuries consistent with being in a car crash.

St. Paul Fire paramedics began rendering aid but the man was pronounced dead soon after.

Investigators believe the second vehicle was also involved in the Wilson Avenue crash. Ernster said he believed that two other people were in the car with the man who died — they were taken in for questioning.

Ernster said nobody had been arrested as of early Friday morning.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
