Coon Rapids man dies after shooting in Brooklyn Park

According to officials, a 34-year-old died in the hospital from multiple gunshot wounds.

BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. — On Saturday evening police in Brooklyn Park responded to a shooting in a home, rushing a man to the hospital who later died. 

According to a press release, officers were sent to a house in the 8400 block of Adair Avenue North. Police found a chaotic scene and a victim with gunshot wounds in his midsection. Officers gave the man medical care and rushed him to the hospital for further treatment. 

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner said on Monday that the victim, 34-year-old Nichanon Kittikroekphon of Coon Rapids, died at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale from multiple gunshot wounds. His death was ruled as a homicide.

Police said a man was pinned to the ground by other people on scene. Investigators determined the man was the shooter and police took him into custody. A firearm was also located, according to officers. 

The suspect was arrested and booked for crimes related to the shooting, police said. 

Officials said the scene of the shooting was a family gathering and both the suspect and victim were related. The suspect was angry with the victim after a verbal exchange, police said, and pulled out a gun, firing it several times into the victim at close range. other family members who were there tackled and held him down until police arrived. 

The suspect is in custody at Hennepin County Jail on probable cause murder, police said. He is awaiting formal charges from the Hennepin County Attorney's Office. 

This incident is still under investigation.
