ANNANDALE, Minn. — An 85-year-old man is in custody after allegedly stabbing his wife of 65 years with a kitchen knife, according to charging documents.

The Wright County Attorney's Office charged Rodney Andersen, of Annandale, with one count of second-degree murder after his wife, identified in the criminal complaint as 82-year-old JLA, succumbed to her wounds last week.

Officers responded to the house on Knollwood Street the morning of Sept. 12 and located JLA with multiple apparent stab wounds. Crews reportedly tried to save her life, but they were unsuccessful. JLA was pronounced dead at the scene, which officials determined was due to "stab wounds inflicted by the defendant."

Court documents said Andersen told investigators he couldn't "remember how many times he stabbed" his wife, but told police he knew he stabbed her "at least once" somewhere in the "middle" of her body.

Responding officers told prosecutors they observed JLA with "several puncture wounds" on her abdomen, from which she was bleeding heavily.

The complaint said Andersen put the knife in the kitchen sink before reporting the stabbing to 911 dispatchers and sitting at the front door waiting for police to arrive.

Later at the Annandale Police Department, Andersen allegedly told authorities, "I guess I lost my head."

Andersen is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
