Maplewood family marches to remember man shot and killed 3 years ago

Police found 20-year-old Devinn Madley laying on Larpenteur Avenue on Aug. 28, 2021.

MAPLEWOOD, Minn. — Three years ago Wednesday, Maplewood Police say Devinn Madley was shot and killed while walking home from a store near Larpenteur Avenue East and McKnight Road.

There’s never been an arrest in the case and his family marched on the anniversary to push for answers.

“He was just full of life,” said Madley’s mother, Abbey. “He loved everybody.”

She hosted the walk that ended with a prayer at the spot the 20-year-old took his last breath.

“I’m thinking somebody around here saw something and is scared to say something,” said Abbey. “This was a good kid and he deserves justice.”

Police say there were at least two witnesses back then and even three suspects, but no one has ever been in custody for the crime. They wouldn’t comment further on the case Wednesday, but revealed Madley was missing one shoe and one headphone at the scene.

“Please just say something,” said Abbey. “This never should have happened.”

The family still tends to the memorial and, at one point, offered a $7,000 reward. Anyone who knows anything about the fatal shooting or those responsible are asked to call Lt. Joe Steiner at 651-249-2608.
