BUFFALO, Minn. — School officials from two extended metro districts say a student from Chaska was taken into custody after allegedly posting an active shooter threat on social media.

Superintendent Scott Thielman of the Buffalo Hanover Montrose Schools sent a message to parents Wednesday morning informing them of the threat that referenced Buffalo High School and several other schools outside the district.

"The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, along with the Chaska Police Department, worked overnight to investigate an active shooter threat made on Snapchat and arrested the individual responsible, who is a student in Chaska," the messages read. "According to the Buffalo Police Department, there is no reason to believe that anyone aside from the individual arrested is involved."

Thielman explained that while the posted threat is unsettling, the district would go on with a normal school days as the situation had been properly handled by law enforcement.

While not mentioned in the threat, Eastern Carver Schools Superintendent Dr. Erin Rathke also sent a message to families explaining that the threat was allegedly made by a district student. She said Chaska police assured district leaders that there is no evidence to support that the student had the ability to carry out the threat or that anyone else was involved.

"What we always ask of our community is to speak up and say something if you hear or see something that makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe," Superintendent Rathke wrote. "I am grateful to those who stepped forward to make sure law enforcement got involved. Those are the kinds of actions that keep our community safe."
