MILLE LACS, Minn — The walleye limit on Mille Lacs Lake will remain at two through the winter months after a recent assessment showed higher population numbers when compared to last year.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced Wednesday that the limit will stay at two walleye 18 to 20 inches long, or one 18-20 inches and one longer than 28 inches from Dec. 1, 2024 to Feb. 23, 2025.
“Mille Lacs’ walleye population is trending in a good direction for both adult and juvenile fish,” said Minnesota Department of Natural Resources fisheries section manager Brad Parsons in a news release. “Juvenile perch and tullibee, important forage species for walleye, also are abundant.”
The two-fish limit is a continuation from August and is decided on following discussions between the state and Ojibwe tribes.
