MINNEAPOLIS — One person is dead and two others are recovering in the hospital after a shooting in northeast Minneapolis late Sunday.

Police said officers were called to the 2500 block of Central Avenue northeast at around 9:45 p.m. on reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found a man with life-threatening gunshot wounds on the ground. Officers said they cared for the man until paramedics arrived and took the man to Hennepin Healthcare.

Minneapolis police said the man later died at the hospital. He was later identified as 32-year-old Christopher Darnell Thurmond of Maplewood.

A vehicle that police said left the scene was found in the area of 4th Street Southeast and Central Avenue. Officers said a man and woman with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds were inside the vehicle. Paramedics took them to Hennepin Healthcare, police said. No information was made available regarding their conditions.

Preliminary information suggests there was a fight between several people who knew each other, police said. The altercation led to the shots that struck the three victims.

Two women were arrested and booked into the Hennepin County Jail in connection with the incident. Officers are still investigating the sequence of events that led to the shootings.
