Downtown Minneapolis light rail closing for next few days

For the next couple of days, buses will replace trains on the Blue and Green lines in downtown Minneapolis.

MINNEAPOLIS — If you ride the light rail downtown, be ready to board a bus for the next few days instead.

Starting Wednesday at 10 p.m., Metro Transit is replacing the Blue Line and Green Line downtown with buses. The trains will be back up and running by 3 a.m. on Monday.

The light rail is shutting down so that crews can replace the rail/cable and circuit hardware. Metro Transit said they are also going to do prep work for future expansions.

The closure for the Blue and Green Lines will start at Target Field. For the Blue Line, the closure extends to the Cedar-Riverside stop and opens again at Franklin Avenue. On the Green Line, the closure extends to the East Bank spot and opens again at Stadium Village.

Metro Transit said the buses that are replacing the light rail on these routes could have timing that varies and may take longer with traffic conditions.
