Minneapolis police investigate gunshot death of teen girl in Folwell neighborhood

A teen died from a gunshot wound Saturday, Minneapolis Police said.

MINNEAPOLIS — A 15-year-old girl in north Minneapolis died Saturday from a gunshot wound, police said.

Authorities were called at 1:50 p.m. to the 3400 block of Logan Avenue North. The teen was taken from the house to North Memorial Health where she was pronounced dead.

Now authorities are trying to figure out what led up to the shooting, with Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara saying this could have been a terrible accident, or connected to the "growing violence among teenagers."

“I am deeply concerned by the shooting death of a 15-year-old girl,” said chief O’Hara in a press release.  “Whether this is a terrible accident highlighting the need for the proper care and storage of guns, or this is somehow connected to the growing violence among teenagers, the loss of a 15-year-old girl is an unacceptable tragedy. Our investigators are working diligently to determine exactly what happened. Together with our law enforcement and community partners, we will continue to do all we can to completely interrupt the number of lives that are forever impacted by guns."

Officials with the police department said no arrests have been made, but noted there were two adults and two teens in the home when officers arrived.
