CROOKSTON, Minn. — The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) responded to a police use-of-force incident Sunday night in Crookston.

According to information from the Crookston police department, officers were called to a fight in progress at the Care and Share homeless shelter at 220 East 3rd Street.

When officers arrived, they said they found a man inside the shelter who was combative toward officers and not following their verbal commands.

Officials said officers deployed less lethal means, then an officer fired their service weapon, striking the suspect.

Police said they provided care to the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing and Crookston police asked for the BCA's assistance.
