ST. PAUL, Minn. - That canceled driver's license will no longer carry the clipped corner. Instead, Minnesota will begin stamping "void" on identification cards that are invalidated.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety said Tuesday that the change takes effect next week. Starting Monday, invalidated cards will have a perforated void stamped next to the holder's photo.

People who apply for renewed or duplicated ID cards have their existing cards invalidated to prevent fraudulent use.

The change puts Minnesota in compliance with a federal requirement for commercial licenses. The state Driver and Vehicle Services division decided to process all cards in that fashion to reduce errors and confusion.
