ROGERS, Minn — Parts of Minnesota are covered in snow during Halloween, and folks are clearing their driveways in hopes of trick-or-treaters or reevaluating their costumes.
In Rogers, folks were shuffling from their cars to the warmth of the grocery store quicker than usual.
“In the morning there was all this rain,” said Marty Florek, who stopped by Cub to pick up lunch. “And when I came into work and I was a little shocked to see it had changed over to snow the way it did.”
Donna and Bryan Flemming were opposite in their feelings about the snow.
“I don’t really mind the snow, I’m so happy!” said Donna.
“It’s really cold on my hands, can’t wait to go home,” said Bryan as Donna giggled.
Donna affectionately remembers the Halloween snow dump of 1991.
“We just moved here from Virginia, three days later it was Halloween!” said Donna. “The snow started and it kept going on and on.”
But when others think of '91, they remember a different storm.
Pat Wurm of Otsego was prepping his driveway in anticipation of trick-or-treaters later in the night.
The snow was heavy and wet, but Wurm said the work was not too hard, really.
“Since July 10 of '91 everyday has been a good day since,” said Wurm. “That’s the day I found out I had 6 weeks to live. Stage four lymphoma. I beat that, beat a lot of things.”
He says ever since he turned that corner in life, a sharp, slushy turn like this is welcome any day.
