MARSHALL, Minn. — A missing toddler was tragically found dead in a river in Marshall, Minnesota Wednesday evening.
The Marshall Police Department was initially called to the 200 block of South 4th Street for a missing child at 4:45 p.m., according to a release from the department.
After an initial investigation, officers from the department received assistance from the Lyon County Sheriff's Office and other local first responders and conducted a search.
At roughly 5:20 p.m., an unresponsive 4-year-old boy was found in the Redwood River close to the intersection of Kossuth Street and 7th Street.
Emergency crews attempted life saving measures at the scene and on route to the hospital, but the boy was later pronounced deceased at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center.
An investigation into the matter is ongoing, but foul play is not suspected, according to the release.
